the makeup of makeup

Hello! It has been so long since I have blogged! I know I said I would do at least one post a week, but last week I was so busy with school that I had no time nor patience to blog. So yea...lots to talk about.

On Tuesday of last week, I ran over a tiny black thing on the freeway and my front left tire totally ripped. I pulled over to the side of the freeway and was so freaked out! My dad came and called a tow truck. My car was taken to a mechanic shop nearby and the baby tire was filled with air and put on. I am so mad because the tow truck guy chipped off a piece of the front of my car while towing it. I know it can be touched up, but I cannot believe how careless he was!

Last Friday (that makes it seems like a long time ago...it was only two days ago) my mom and I went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic! It was funny and charming!

Yesterday was Valentine's Day! I hope all of you had a wonderful day full of laughter and love! My mom made cookies that she normally only makes for Christmas and I made super chocolately brownies! :)

THE FOLLOWING IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ.

There was a recent video on Youtube concerning the 100% Silica Powder sold on coastalscents.com. I believe that silica powder (as it was 100%) was made to be mixed with other makeup ingredients, not to be used alone. I did my own research on this after I saw the Youtube video and I would not use the 100% silica powder sold by Coastal Scents. Hell, I would not use any powder that is 100% silica.

Many cosmetics, even ones sold by well known brands, use chemicals that may cause cancer or other things that may greatly harm the human body. Wearing makeup is a choice, but please make an educated decision on which products to use and which to avoid.

READ THE INGREDIENTS!
Read the ingredients on all of your cosmetics and pay attention to the percentages of each chemical in them. If there are no percentages, contact the company to find out more information about the product.

DO YOUR RESEARCH!
Research chemicals used in products. http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ has good information and a large database of chemicals used in cosmetics. There are other websites that provide similar information. Make sure that the website is not BIASED.

CALL THE COMPANY!
Take the time to call the cosmetics company and ask questions. They can give you information and address your concerns. Please note that the representative at the company may give you biased information. If the company is well known throughout the world, make sure the information they give you matches what is published on their website. Calling a company is really a last resort, use your own resources and do your own research!!

I just want everyone to be aware that there are a hell of a lot of things in our modern world that can cause cancer and other diseases and illnesses. I am not an expert on the chemicals used in cosmetics, but based on my own personal research, I have come to the conclusion that 100% silica powder is unsafe. Please do your own research and make your own decision reguarding this product and other products if you use them.

I use MAC Cosmetics and they state on their U.K. website that "The levels of concentration of all ingredients in our products are safe for consumer use." If you use MAC products, please click here for more information.

925 x 2 = LOVE

Last Sunday, we went to Fashion Valley! I got the very last Victoria's Secret Pink dog plushie! YAY! I also purchased a super cute Juicy Couture hat at Nordstrom and a pretty green top at Banana Republic! At Tiffany's, I received an early Valentine's Day gift from my special someone! :) We had lunch at CPK and the salad was absolutely delicious! I know this sounds crazy, but I've never had black pepper in salad and it tastes AMAZING! I was like "WOW!" Lol. After lunch, we had dessert at The Cheesecake Factory! We ate KEY LIME Cheesecake and it was the single most delicious non-chocolate dessert I have had my entire life! :) Oh! We saw the Hermes (pretend there is an accent on the second 'e') but it was closed!

After our morning shopping we headed home to catch the majority of the Superbowl that was still on. I'm not a football person at all, but the game was fun to watch cause it came down to the last two minutes and the Steelers won because some dude caught the ball and his toes were the only part of his body actually touching the end zone. It was crazy!

This past week I also received Gackt's Nine*Nine and GHOST in the mail! For some reason, I thought Nine*Nine was a collection of all his concerts on DVD, but it actually consists of the live songs from those concerts on several CDs. I was sort of disappointed, but I'm sure the collection will grow on me. On the DVD that it comes with, Gackt seems to be on some sort of radio show and Miyavi is one of the guests that shows up! :) Unfortunately, there were no subtitles, but there are two unreleased songs on the DVD that are super good! :D

Oh! My mom and I watched the movie they made about Ben Carson called Gifted Hands. It was really good and I think that everyone should watch it! The book is really good too and I would recommend reading it before you see the movie! :)

a random post, a busy week

OMG! This past week has been so busy! I started school on Monday and it sucks cause this semester I have to go to classes five days a week! BLAH! So far, I like all of my classes with the exception of the programming one because I don't know a thing about it! I've decided to keep the class though, so I hope I do well despite my lack of ultra-computer-geekism. Anywho, I've gotten very little sleep this week and have been eating horribly. I was suppose to wash my car today, but I was too damn lazy to do that. OMG! My allergies are totally out to get me! It's been windy for a few days and I've been sneezing so much! The wind blows around the tumbleweeds which roll into the middle of the street and become super dangerous to drivers. TUMBLEWEEDS IRK ME! This morning I was at Starbucks with my mom and I had my first RED VELVET CAKE! It was a cupcake with yummy frosting (that says a lot cause I normally dislike frosting.) The actual cupcake had a weird flavor; I guess that's because of the vinegar and red food coloring in it.

Alas, I am off to watch a couple episodes of Top Chef that I have missed!

The 44th president!

"Know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy."

-President Barack Obama

I watched the Inauguration today! It was so amazing! President Obama's speech was so awesome! Technically (or rather, constitutionally), he was president at noon (Eastern Time) despite not having taken the oath by that time since they were running late.

I thought the Obama's looked sharp, especially the children and our new First Lady, Michelle, who wore a yellow dress with matching coat and green gloves and shoes. I have to say that I did not enjoy Aretha Franklin singing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee." I think it was nice that they had her perform, but her voice isn't what it used to be. However, I did enjoy the piece that Yo-Yo Ma took part in, entitled "Air and Simple Gifts." Props to the guy playing the clarinet during that piece (hell, props to all the marching bands out there in the parade as well)—it was super cold outside! The parade itself was quite boring, yet I watched the entire thing...today totally had that "history in the making" feel. I liked the closing prayer by Rev. Joseph Lowery who said:

"We ask you [God] to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right."

I am really glad that I voted—not only did I witness this amazing moment in history, but I was a part of it! Wow!

Obama was sworn in with Abraham Lincoln's bible:

Congrats President Obama! :)

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

-President Barack Obama

Spunk Ransom!

Hey everyone! I feel like I haven't blogged in sooo looong. I've been feeling super lethargic lately! I want to be out and about but I feel so damn lazy at the same time! It doesn't help that I've been waking up around noon. I know! IT'S TERRIBLE!

Anywho, despite my utter lethargy, I've managed to enjoy some of the past 10 days.

On Thursday I was like the first person at MAC so that I could try out and buy some of the Brunette Blonde Redhead collection! If you are looking into the collection, here is a list of my favorites:

Eyeshadows:
Henna
Knight
100 Strokes

Brushes:
the 226 is the best in this collection!

Lipstick:
All's Fair is the MUST HAVE COLOR!!

Lipglass:
Strawberry Blonde is super pretty!

...this collection was all about the lips!

I was going to post pictures and swatches of what I purchased, but I rather you go to a MAC store and look at the actual collection since pictures eliminate the texture of the product and do no justice to the prettiness of the colors. :)

Oh...I recieved Chrome Yellow as well as a few other goodies from MAC in the mail. I hope everyone took advantage of their 25% off sale last week!

My mom and I went to see BRIDE WARS on Friday!! I am so IN LOVE with that movie!! It is super cute and everyone should see it! :)

The Golden Globes were Sunday and Tina Fey was super funny: "you can suck it!" I adored Kate Winslet's speeches! She was so funny and I love her BRI-ISH-NESS! :D

American Idol started Tuesday and I can't wait until Hollywood week! So far, Randy hasn't said 'dawg' as much as he was saying it last season. Lol. I really don't see the point of having a fourth judge...it's actually irritating that the camera person can't seem to get all of them in the same shot. Details matter. I just wish that the auditioners weren't so delusional!! Are they serious? Do they think they sound good? I dunno...it's just so strange.

Yesterday, I exchanged my recently purchased BCBG red and brown pointy-toe heels for Jessica Simpson heels which are super comfortable! I tried on like 20 pairs of shoes and I just want to thank the SUPER NICE GUY who went back and forth to get all the shoes for me to try on! THANK YOU! His shift eventually ended and I'm sorry I did not get his name. He was incredibly nice and helpful! :)

After that my mom and I went to Yogurt Island which is really super cool! It is a self-serve frozen yogurt place that is super fun and chic! It looked nicer than Pinkberry, but had the same retro-zen vibe. I sampled the pomegranate flavored yogurt and it was good, but I ended up getting the yummy peach! After you get your frozen yogurt, you can add fresh fruit and other toppings. Your creation is then weighed, you pay for it, and enjoy! It seems like a great place to bring your friends for casual and fun frozen yogurt consumption. ← that was funny and weird. :)

By the way, I finished reading The Sex Lives of Cannibals: Adrift in the Equatorial Pacific by J. Maarten Troost and it is such a funny book! I recommend it to anyone who likes to laugh! XD

This post was so entirely random, but that is how this past week and a half has been for me! I'm off to cut and glue! I want to make a cute Robert Pattinson collage-type-thing for the front of my binder! I shall leave you with this:

Thanks to Robert Pattinson Online! :)

Peace!

no fourth case

This evening I made a big decision not to take a risk. Unfortunately, I made the decision out of fear rather than reason, which is not the greatest thing to do. I felt like I was being forced into something that I was not ready to do.

It is quite possible that I made the wrong decision. Maybe I just freaked myself out about the whole thing and got totally worked up over nothing. If I go through with it, it is possible that everything could be completely fine and I would get some answers...

If I go through with it, I may get hurt, I may die.

I was not afraid of dying. Dying is easy. Getting hurt was my fear; the idea of possible permanent pain terrified me. In Take the Risk, Ben Carson wrote something along the lines of this: the more we know, the more we worry.

I was far past worry, I was damn scared.

I went back and forth with my decision, weighing possible outcomes and the bad was always more than the good. How rational were my fears? How often were there bad outcomes? I had too little imformation yet too much. I had too many questions and not nearly as many answers. I was under an immense pressure with no one to run to for help.

I sort of wish I had taken the risk.
The decision has been made but I am left undecided.
